Opportunities for Polymers in Advanced Space Batteries

Advanced batteries are enablers for the success of space missions. These systems are primarily designed to power payloads but also need to withstand harsh environments and demonstrate safety to the launch asset and surrounding platform. Opportunities where polymers will likely provide materials solutions to battery challenges will be discussed: next generation chalcogenide polymers to develop supply chain-resilient energy storage materials and nanoscale polymeric coatings to overcome abusing charging processes and enable safe fast charging.
