Michael J. A. Hore, Ph.D. Warren E. Rupp Associate Professor Department of Macromolecular Science and Engineering Case Western Reserve University
Dr. Michael Hore is a leading researcher and educator in polymer physics, currently serving as the Warren E. Rupp Associate Professor at Case Western Reserve University. He co-leads the CME PMSE Student & Mentor Award, presented annually at the CME NASA Symposium during the ACS Fall Meetings, recognizing excellence in mentorship and innovation in polymer science.
His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania (2012), preceded by an M.S. in Physics (2007) and a B.S. in Physics and Mathematics (2005), both from The University of Memphis. He completed his postdoctoral research as an NRC Associate at the NIST Center for Neutron Research (2012β2014), where he specialized in neutron scattering and polymer phase behavior.
Dr. Horeβs contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including:
ACS PMSE Young Investigator Award (2018)
NSF CAREER Award (2016β2022)
APS DPOLY/UKPPG Lecture Exchange Award (2017)
Tau Beta Pi Srinivasa P. Gutti Memorial Teaching Award (2018)
Case School of Engineering Undergraduate Teaching Award (2016)
His research integrates theory, simulation, and experimentation to explore the behavior of grafted and nonlinear polymers, with applications in advanced materials and nanotechnology. Dr. Hore is also a dedicated educator, known for his engaging courses in polymer physics, thermodynamics, and scattering techniques.
