Bio – Dr. Anne Shim is the Head of Advanced Materials and Systems Research, NA. In this role, she leads a cross-functional group including teams in Formulations, Monomer and Polymer research, Pilot plant, and Analytical. Prior to this, she was the director of New Product Development for BASF’s Performance Materials division in North America. Performance Materials focuses on thermoplastic and thermoset materials and have a wide product offering spanning from engineered plastics to polyurethane systems to thermoplastic urethanes in broad market segments such as transportation, industrial, consumer and construction. She joined Performance Materials in November 2017.
Anne joined BASF in January 2013 as the Director of Technology for our Coatings Division. She was part of the business leadership that successfully grew the organization top and bottom line. Part of the significant EBIT growth was enabled by creating a seamless virtual technical team consisting of groups in Mexico, India, and the US. In 2015 Anne assumed responsibility for the Quality group. Anne served as a leadership team member of the global technology steering committee as well as the regional business. In 2017 Anne assumed technical responsibility for the coatings team in South America.
Anne received her PhD in Polymer Science from the University of Akron, Ohio. She also holds a Masters in Polymer Science from the University of Akron and a Master of Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark.
