Associate Chief Scientist
Dr. Mamta Patel Nagaraja is the NASA Associate Chief Scientist for Exploration and Applied Research. In this role, she advises the Chief Scientist in exploration, biomedical, and physical sciences performed by humans in space. Although her research expertise is on the molecular effects of microgravity on bone cells, she assists in the coordination of technology demonstration of novel fluids, advanced materials, energy and transport phenomena as well as STEM engagement and workforce development. She previously served as a program scientist for space biology, led science communications, served as the lead mechanical engineer for a scientific instrument, trained astronauts, and worked in the Mission Control Center.
2024 CME NASA Symposium Abstract
There are many areas of science that play roles in exploration of the cosmos. In this session, we will discuss two main areas that contribute to human exploration. This overview will describe space biology and human research and how they each contribute to the NASA mission.
