Dr. Michael Joseph Puma is Unit Director and Research Scientist at the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS). His research expertise includes Global Food Security, especially the exploration of how susceptible the global food system is to disturbances, and understanding the limits to predictability of complex systems, and the Land-Atmosphere Interactions in the Earth’s climate system with focus on agriculture and more generally on vegetation/soil properties. He has analyzed the scenarios of the Russia – Ukraine War. Puma holds a PhD, Civil Engineering, Environmental Eng. and Water Resources, 2006, from Princeton University. He also earned a Master of International Affairs, Environmental Policy Studies from Columbia University.
