Abstract

• Wuhan Coronavirus: is it a pandemic; what is its economic impact?
• What are the prospects for trade, manufacturing, and jobs?

CME was pleased to bring two chief economists to provide valuable insights on the economy, trade issues, and consumer trends. Gregory Daco, the US Chief Economist at Oxford Economics presented the US and China economic outlook, including the global implications from the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak which is growing much faster and larger than SARS. He discussed the latest trade developments and changes in the global economic backdrop, and how the Federal Reserve would likely conduct monetary policy.

Dr. Kevin Swift shared his expert outlook on the major economic trends that will shape the North American chemical industry. He monitors the business of chemistry which is the building block for everything around us, supporting almost 25 percent of the US GDP. It is vital to continued job creation in manufacturing.
